Why Fad Diets Don't Work

April 16, 2021

I wrote a post about releasing “The Weight of The World.” So, this week I wanted to address Fad Diets.  Most of us who have dieted a time or two know that fad diets don’t work, and most have little to no success in keeping the weight off.

Why is that?

On November 3, 2020, The Associated Press released an article about the CDC’s findings for a 2017-2018 survey they’d completed as compared to the same survey a decade ago. What they found is that diets had increased 14 percent, with 42 percent of Americans being obese. 1.

Based on those findings, clearly, diets aren’t working. So, why are so many American’s continuing to go on diets and still suffering from disease? Dis-ease being anything from my pants are too tight to heart disease.

Because…Fad Diet’s Don’t Work!

Sure, you can go on a calorie-restrictive diet and lose weight, but who wants to spend the rest of their life counting calories and still be hungry after each meal. You could also spend your day’s checking your metabolic state (Ketosis) or counting how many carbs you’ve had in any given day, and yet, you’re more than likely to gain the weight back as soon as you go back on the typical American Diet.

It all comes down to –

  • Food choices
  • Calories consumed
  • Movement
  • Metabolic factors
  • Stress
  • Sleep
  • Mindset
  • And…

Changing Limiting Beliefs!

I get it; weight loss is a deeply personal journey and one that many feel shameful about, along with a laundry list of limiting beliefs about who they are.

Being overweight, out of shape, living with dis-ease, and dealing with dieting complexities isn’t an easy road, and it’s not about willpower. If you’ve dieted, you’ve already displayed great willpower by the sheer damned of a restrictive diet. You may have shed 20, 30, 50, or even 100 plus pounds and then found yourself wondering what’s next. How do I keep this weight off? You might even find that you still don’t feel all that great about yourself because you aren’t sure who this new person is.

So, what can you do to change your lifestyle, lose weight, get in shape, live dis-ease free, and love the person looking back at you in the mirror?

  • Cook nutritional meals – limit processed foods, avoid sugar, reduce alcohol consumption, reduce the number of refined carbs.
  • Eat plenty of vegetables – 80/20 rule (80 veggies/20 protein, fat, and carbs)
  • Eat only what your body needs – Eat to live, not live to eat!
  • Move your body
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Reduce stress
  • Have an accountability partner
  • Get rid of the negative self-talk
  • Get rid of the limiting beliefs and create beliefs that support you
  • Drink plenty of H2O
  • And…

KEEP YOUR PROMISES TO YOURSELF!

By no means do I want to minimize anyone’s journey with weight loss and leading a healthier lifestyle, as we all have to travel down different paths. I’ve had my share of dis-ease, so I know all too well what that looks like. Teaching health and fitness for 30 plus years didn’t save my ass from Cancer. That journey gave me a new perspective on life and an even stronger drive to help others succeed on their health and wellness journeys.

I know that list above can seem daunting and overwhelming, but you can do it, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Join me on a journey to uncover your limiting beliefs, create new habits, build a better relationship with yourself and food, and love the reflection in the mirror.

Explore the possibilities of good health with One Size Fits None, where you’ll find love and support through personal development and that fad diets are not the key to health and wellness.
